With Barack & Michelle Obama Chasing For Netflix, Warner Bros In Final Talks For Will Smith ‘King Richard’ Williams Tennis Sibs Deal

  • Deadline
Warner Bros is looking like the favorite to capture King Richard, a spec script by Zach Baylin that has Will Smith poised to play Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams. This deal will fall in the $60 million budget range, making it as big an auction as we’ve heard of this year, this side of the Lisa Joy-directed package Reminiscence, a film that Warner Bros also landed that has Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Ferguson starring. In both cases, Warner Bros essentially guaranteed green lights and agreed to budgets and production start dates for later this year. Smith dropped out of the Suicide Squad sequel, and has an opening in the latter part of the year.

Up against Warner Bros was Universal and Netflix, the latter of which had a bid bolstered by an alignment to another all-star duo, Barack & Michelle Obama. Word was that Warner Bros

Hell, we’ll even throw “Sicario 2” and “Yellowstone” in there as quality productions, even though both are heavily flawed.

‘Destroyer’ Film Review: Nicole Kidman Gets Grim in Karyn Kusama Cop Drama

‘Destroyer’ Film Review: Nicole Kidman Gets Grim in Karyn Kusama Cop Drama
The premise of a guilt-ridden cop boozing his way through life until he can settle one last debt and go out in a blaze of glory doesn’t scream “original.” And Karyn Kusama’s version of this American tale, “Destroyer,” written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, doesn’t stray too far from the tired tropes, except for the fact that the “he” is now a “she,” played by Nicole Kidman donning distractingly layered makeup and a wig that’s just trying too damned hard.

But despite the film’s needlessly fractured structure and a relentlessly grim story, Kidman and Kusama seem to be speaking the same language, in quieter moments illuminating not just the faults of the protagonist but also the faults of every tragic hard-boiled detective in cinematic history.

Detective Erin Bell (Kidman) can’t catch a break. She’s an authority figure lacking authority, a barely-living joke to colleagues and perps alike.

Chris Pratt Eyes Action Film from Taylor Sheridan

Joseph Baxter Oct 25, 2018

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on hold, Chris Pratt is in talks to star in an action thriller from writer/director Taylor Sheridan.

Chris Pratt may not be hard up for headlining roles, but the drama that saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 lose director James Gunn, only to be subsequently delayed, has left another major vacancy in his blockbuster backlog after another one of his movies, Cowboy Ninja Viking, was delayed indefinitely this past summer. Consequently, Pratt is looking at a role that would see him embrace his action aptitudes in a grittier context than we’re used to seeing.

Talks have begun for Pratt to star in a Warner Bros. action film, tentatively titled Fast, reports Variety. The film is written by Taylor Sheridan, who’s also set to direct, joined by veteran producer David Heyman. The plot of the film is touting interagency conflict,

George Miller, Richard Linklater, Taylor Sheridan & More Set New Projects

Though many want to see George Miller continue his adventures in the world of Mad Max, the director has always been one to divert from expectations and he’ll be doing just that with his newly-announced next project, Three Thousand Years Of Longing. Set to begin production next year, there’s no plot or casting to be revealed, but as one can glean from the title, it’s said to be entirely new territory for the director and “epic in scope,” Deadline reports. Update: THR reports that Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton will star in the film (also going by Djinn), which involves a love story and a genie.

We should be getting the first look at Richard Linklater’s Cate Blanchett-led Where’d You Go Bernadette any day now, but first the director has announced a new project. He’ll be writing and directing a film on the
