Storyline

Go is the oldest game still played in its original form. In east Asia, it is hailed as one of mankind's greatest cultural achievements and considered both ancient art and national sport. At the very top, an elite cadre of professional Go players battles for dominance, broadcast to millions of fans - and remaining virtually unknown to the West. Now, for the first time, a small but determined band of American players enters the fray, launching their own professional system and struggling desperately to bring Go into the mainstream. Everything depends on the genius of the young competitors as they explore the endless complexities of the game. In the end, 'The Surrounding Game' is a story of obsession: a search for meaning beneath the patterns.

First movie of its kind; trailblazer for the Go community
15 March 2018 | by Ksaraf23See all my reviews

Just finished. truly a groundbreaking thing to happen for the go community, the making of this movie. im sure it will start changing how people see this game.

I play online Go and real Go all the time, and I think the idea of professional american players will help Go a long way to inspiring others to follow in their footsteps. Also, that cameo from a certain legendary player was amazing.

This is truly a film that was a long time coming, and one that took so much effort and love to make that even a non-Go player will be able to appreciate it! I strongly urge you all to watch this movie now!
