‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Ewan McGregor Disney+ Series Shooting Next Year, All Scripts Ready – D23
Lucusfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy made it official to fans today that an Obi-Wan series is coming to Disney+. She brought Ewan McGregor on stage, who begged the question to the room: “Ask me if I’m going to play Obi-Wan,” a question he has received backstage at awards shows and from reporter phone calls.

“We have all the scripts written, and we’re ready to go next year, we can’t wait to start production,” said Kennedy.

McGregor was the surprise (not-so?) appearance at the end of Disney+’s D23 Star Wars streaming presentation today.

Prior to Solo: A Star Wars Story bombing at the box office, the first of what was going to be a number of classic Star Wars character spin-off movies, there was buzz of an Obi-Wan movie, with three-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Stephen Daldry attached. No word if he’s still involved here. There was news that

ABC’s take on “The Muppets” was a mockumentary-style series with a more adult-oriented slant on the Jim Henson characters. The premise of the show was that Kermit the Frog split from longtime love interest Miss Piggy, and the pair was forced to continue to work together on the fictional late-night talk show “Up Late With Miss Piggy.”

The cancellation of The Oa by Netflix has created uproar among the series fans. Today, series co-creator Brit Marling took to social media to thank the faithful for their outpouring of support.

In a long post that showed up on Instagram and Twitter, Marling said she was “floored” by the fan reactions, which included dozens of videos, artwork eulogies, moving threads and essays.

Marling used the occasion to raise the question of modern storytelling and its place in capitalism’s “push toward consolidation and economies of scale.”

She alluded to the young woman who is staging a hunger strike outside Netflix headquarters to protest the cancellation. Marling and co-creator Zal Batmanglij visited her to offer a bottle of water and food. The woman said she was protesting “late capitalism” and said that “algorithms aren’t as smart as we are. They cannot account for love.”

Marling said The Oa story lives on despite its cancellation,
