Meek Mill's Docuseries Explores 'Injustice' of Rapper's Arrest, Broken Probation System — Watch Trailer

Those tuned into Sunday’s Bet Awards got a first glimpse at Amazon’s Free Meek, a new docuseries that “chronicles Meek Mill’s fight for exoneration in his legal case while exposing the broader flaws of the U.S. criminal justice system.”

Free Meek — which counts Jay Z among its executive producers — was borne from Meek Mill’s November 2017 arrest. The rapper was sentenced to two-to-four years in prison after he was arrested for popping a wheelie in New York City. Although that charge was ultimately dismissed, Judge Genece Brinkley sent him to prison in Pennsylvania for other technical probation violations,

Euphoria Recap: Daddy Issues

Let’s get this out of the way right off: Yes, as has been widely reported, there is a plethora of penises in Euphoria‘s second episode.

I’ll skip the argument about how a female version of the same scene would never have raised such a pop cultural fuss. Because focusing on the hour’s fleeting moments of full-frontal male nudity is to miss its greater message about the violent and far-reaching effects of toxic masculinity. And given that Nate, in particular, seems like a human red Solo cup full to the brim with bad social programming and harmful decisions?

The Wallendas' Live Highwire Walk Above Times Square: Did You Look?

As part of a push for more live event programming, ABC on Sunday night hosted the latest bit of highwire daredevilry by Nik Wallenda, joined by his sister Lijana, who traversed opposite directions along a 1,300 foot-long tightrope raised 25 stories above Times Square.

Adding to the innate tension of the unprecedented proceedings — besides the fact that Nik would need to step over his crouched sister, and swap harness clips, as they met up midway — was the fact that Nik’s troupe had experienced quite a scare two years ago. In February 2017, all eight of them fell from a highwire while practicing a human pyramid act.

‘Big Little Lies’ Review: ‘The End of the World’ Approaches, as Does Season 2’s Make or Break Moment

‘Big Little Lies’ Review: ‘The End of the World’ Approaches, as Does Season 2’s Make or Break Moment
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Big Little Lies,” “The End of the World” — Season 2, Episode 3.]

Meryl Streep isn’t just the enticing new cast member to “Big Little Lies” Season 2; she’s carrying the entire plot on her shoulders. So far, that’s been a blessing, as Streep’s attentive and rich performance makes any time spent with the mourning Mary Louise pure pleasure. But in Episode 3, “The End of the World,” it’s also clearer than ever that she’s the only one driving any narrative momentum. What writer David E. Kelley and director Andrea Arnold do with her dogged pursuit of the truth will be the make or break moment for the series. As we approach the midway point, this latest hour shows how enjoyable and affecting this new “Big Little Lies” can be, while still repeating the same beats shown previously.

Before we get to a few theories of what might come

‘Yellowstone Live’: Baby Animals Are Front and Center in This Year’s Ambitious NatGeo Event
Yellowstone Live” finished its debut four-night run on a Wednesday last August. But before the week was over, the team behind the show knew they wanted to take on the ambitious live TV nature event again, and they knew exactly what this year’s version needed.

Baby animals. Lots and lots of baby animals.

Beginning Sunday night, Nat Geo will present another quartet of primetime one-hour installments, capturing the activity happening in the park at this summer’s opening. Teams of camera crews will be broadcasting live footage of animals and natural phenomena, mixed in with pre-recorded segments to help give audiences at home some context for what they’re seeing. Showrunner James Smith said that having this event earlier this year was a direct response to wanting to feature smaller young animals as part of the series’ broadcasts.

“July and August gets very dry, but May and June is when it’s really lush.

Ted Sarandos on How Netflix Develops Original Content: ‘It’s 70-80% Art, and 20-30% Science’

Netflix has always been fighting for its fair shake in Hollywood, be it breaking in as an original content producer or being considered for major awards. But now it’s facing a fight for dominance in the very market it helped create. While the streaming giant has always gone head-to-head with the likes of Hulu and Amazon, more major corporations are about to get in the streaming entertainment game via their own subscription services — namely, Disney and Apple.

During a conversation at SeriesFest in Denver, Co, Saturday night, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos explained the methods that have helped build Netflix into the world’s leading streaming service — and could give them an edge against their competitors — what it’s not doing with subscribers’ data that other companies may be, and what’s “interesting” about the upcoming streaming wars.

First up, Sarandos discussed what goes into the decisions behind selecting original series to produce.
