Dear White People Sets Season 3 Premiere Date, Stages Grits Debate
Dear White People will go back to school on Friday, Aug. 2, when Netflix releases Season 3 (sorry, Volume 3) of the satirical series.

In conjunction with the Juneteenth announcement, the streamer released a video (above) in which the cast engages in a “sweet vs. salty” grits debate. And that frankly made me lamenting how sad this morning’s whole wheat bagel breakfast was.

Having picked up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off, Dear White People chronicles the socially conscious campus activities at the fictional Winchester College, led by radio host Samantha White (Logan Browning) and her controversial “Dear White People” rants.

NBC’s ‘Songland’ Has Already Churned Out Multiple Hit Singles – in Just 4 Weeks

  • The Wrap
NBC’s songwriting competition “Songland” has only been on the air since May 28, and it’s already churned out several singles that have ranked high on the iTunes charts.

Tuesday night’s episode yielded a new single for the Jonas Brothers, and by Wednesday morning, “Greenlight” had already risen to No. 2 on the iTunes Overall Chart as well as the Pop Chart. “Greenlight” would have been No. 1 if not for Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down.”

Last week, Kelsea Ballerini found a hit in “Better Luck Next Time.” Written by Darius Coleman, the song rose to the very top of the iTunes Pop Chart two days after it was released on June 11, and hit No. 2 on the iTunes Overall Chart.

We’ll give “Greenlight” another day or so to match it, but good luck against all those Swifties.

‘The Loudest Voice’ Showrunner Explains What Kind of Pushback He Expects From Gop Crowd
The Loudest Voice,” Showtime’s upcoming miniseries about Fox News founder Roger Ailes, is sure to rile up some in conservative circles. Alex Metcalf, the showrunner for the series, told TheWrap what kind of negative reaction he expects.

“We’re so clear about the agenda. We don’t shy away from showing Roger fostering and pushing his agenda, while recognizing that there was an audience that would pay for that,” he said. I don’t expect pushback on the facts, but I do expect pushback on the sensibility.”

The series stars Russell Crowe, in his first major TV role, as Ailes, and is based on former New York magazine reporter Gabriel Sherman’s best-selling book, “The Loudest Voice in the Room.” The miniseries will detail Ailes’ rise to power and how he built Fox News into a cable news behemoth, as well as address the sexual harassment accusations and monetary

‘Midsommar’ Film Review: Ari Aster’s ‘Hereditary’ Follow-Up Feels Muddled and Underwritten
Try as it might to seduce you with its innocuous farm setting and Kumbaya vibes, writer-director Ari Aster’s “Midsommar” is just about the coldest — and most puzzling — film to be released so far this year. And that’s not because it centers on what turns out to be a cult community with frightening ulterior motives. It’s because none of its core characters, including the female protagonist, make any rational decisions (while being too distant to care about anyway).

This isolation happens early in the film, as it drops audiences into a heightened narrative already in motion, leaving viewers rushing to catch up to what’s going on. Dani (Pugh) is at her wit’s end searching for her missing sister, who left her a cryptic note. She feverishly messages her sister, who may or may not have a history of emotional instability (it’s never really defined in
