James Mangold to Write and Direct ‘Boba Fett’ for Lucasfilm
James Mangold is set to write and direct a “Star Wars” standalone movie based on popular bounty hunter “Boba Fett,” according to a report by the Hollywood Reporter.

Stephen Daldry is also in talks to direct an “Obi Wan” movie, although no writers are working on a script.

Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy. His travels led him to work for the Empire, collaborate with Darth Vader and take assignments from figures such as Jabba the Hutt, for whom he once captured Han Solo.

The beloved character was primarily played by English actor Jeremy Bulloch in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”

Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been closely involved in the creative process for the “Boba Fett” movie,

In ‘That Summer,’ the Stars of ‘Grey Gardens’ Look More Unhinged Than Ever

In ‘That Summer,’ the Stars of ‘Grey Gardens’ Look More Unhinged Than Ever
There are a few ways to think about Edith Bouvier Beale, the fallen ’30 debutante–turned-head-scarf-wearing aristocratic freak who became a cult figure in “Grey Gardens,” the 1975 Maysles brothers documentary that’s now regarded as a vérité classic. When you first see “Little Edie,” she comes off as someone who, if she didn’t exist, John Waters would have had to invent. Swanning around in her too-bright lipstick and Ocd kerchiefs (think Muslim head scarves designed by Coco Chanel), she’s a found-object character, a High Wasp fruitcake dropping breathy pensées that make her sound weirdly worldly and utterly around the bend. That’s why she’s a camp icon.

But how did she get that way? The astounding musical version of “Grey Gardens,” which premiered Off Broadway in 2006, dove deep into Edie’s past and came up with an interpretation of how, exactly, she wound up living with her ancient domineering mother,

China Appoints Wang Xiaohui as Film Bureau Chief

China has appointed high-ranking lawyer and bureaucrat Wang Xiaohui as head of the Film Bureau. The position had been vacant since March.

A reshuffle had been in the cards for a couple of months since the government announced that the State Administration for Press Publishing Radio Film & Television (Sapprft) and the Film Bureau were shifted to be under direct control of the Communist Party’s Propaganda Department. That move is seen as part of a growing government crackdown over media, the internet, and social media.

In addition to the new Film Bureau role, Wang is expected to retain his title as deputy minister of the Propaganda Department. The Chinese Government Network described Wang as 55 years old, hailing from Jilin Province and, after completing a Masters degree in law, starting a career at the Propaganda Department in 1986. In 2014, he served as deputy director of the Central Policy Research Office.

Boba Fett: James Mangold to Write and Direct Standalone ‘Star Wars’ Film About Everyone’s Favorite Bounty Hunter

The universe continues to expand. Just a day before “Solo” hits theaters, IndieWire has learned that Boba Fett will be the next character to receive a standalone movie of his own. “Logan” helmer James Mangold is writing and directing the spinoff, which follows “The Force Awakens,” “Rogue One,” “The Last Jedi,” “Solo,” and an upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi project in the current generation of “Star Wars” movies. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news.

First introduced in “The Empire Strikes Back,” Fett quickly became a fan favorite despite doing very little and promptly dying a slow, agonizing death in “Return of the Jedi.” We learned more about the character in “Attack of the Clones,” which revealed the contract killer to be a clone of Jango Fett — whose decapitation in front of his clone/son apparently inspires young Boba to turn to a life of crime.

As for why such a cult following has developed around Boba,

Jim Jefferies Reveals the Secret Behind Brad Pitt’s Weatherman Appearances — Turn It On Podcast
Jim Jefferies has a secret to tell about Brad Pitt. The movie actor has shown up several times on Comedy Central’s “The Jim Jefferies Show” as its unofficial weatherman, casually sharing the horrors of climate change. But here’s the truth: Pitt hasn’t dropped by in a year.

“This is the one that went viral, even though it was recorded a year ago,” Jefferies said of a recent Brad Pitt segment. The show had leftover footage of Brad doing a LeBron James joke, which felt timely because of the NBA playoffs. Slayer guitarist Kerry King happened to be on set, so they put him in front of a green screen, and it looked like the musician was a fan trying to talk to him.

“And then Gayle King is on the news going, ‘Wow, Brad Pitt must really love Jim Jefferies, he’s back on the show!’ I

By now everyone knows of the troubled production history of Solo: A Star Wars Story, which saw its directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord replaced halfway through the shoot by veteran Ron Howard.
