This Place From the Game of Thrones Finale Has Layers Upon Layers of Meaning
Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead.

The Game of Thrones season finale provides a fitting end for our characters. We're sad to see them go, but it seems like all of the survivors receive a happy ending. However, as hard as the show's creators work to tie up loose ends and broken alliances, we still have a few smoldering questions. The main question being, what's with the coliseum-like structure that acts as backdrop for Tyrion's trial in front of the Seven Kingdom's council of queens, kings, wise men, and military minds?

The answer is one that you wouldn't expect, but it echoes the demise of King's Landing by dragon fire and fits into the theme of Daenerys as the Mad Queen. The structure that we see is actually the remains of the dragonpit that House Targaryen built as a stable for their dragons hundreds of years before the events of the series.

Game of Thrones: Let's Talk About What Drogon Doesn't Do - and Why

Game of Thrones: Let's Talk About What Drogon Doesn't Do - and Why
Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead.

The Targaryen dynasty fulfilled its motto of "Fire and Blood" in the Game of Thrones series finale. After laying waste to King's Landing with her army and her dragon fire, Daenerys finally reached the Iron Throne, only to be killed by her lover (and surprise nephew), Jon, aka Aegon Targaryen, who has finally grown too horrified at her violence to let her continue on. After Dany dies, her last remaining dragon, Drogon, appears, and he spots Dany's body with Jon right by her. Drogon roars and rages - but he doesn't kill Jon.

It's unclear as to why Drogon doesn't kill Jon where he stands. After all, Jon just killed Drogon's mother, and dragons are not known for being the forgiving kind. One possibility is that Drogon outright cannot kill Jon, at least not with dragon fire. We've seen before that Targaryens -

Sophie Turner Tries Her Best to Dodge Jessica Chastain's Game of Thrones Finale Predictions
Game of Thrones is coming to an end on Sunday, and Jessica Chastain has some thoughts.

The 42-year-old actress posted a hilarious video of her hanging out with one of the show's stars Sophie Turner - who also happens to be Chastain's costar in the upcoming X-Men film Dark Phoenix. While the two are walking together with an entourage, Chastain is bellowing her predictions about who is going to take the Iron Throne.

After sharing how bummed she is about missing the finale live since she'll be traveling, Chastain goes into a full-blown rant, saying she wants none other than Sansa Stark (Turner) to rule over Westeros. "You better be on the Iron Throne, or I'm going to be pissed," she tells Turner. She goes on to say Arya, the most "badass fighter," should be Sansa's hand and drags Tyrion for "sh*tting the bed lately." All the while, Turner

Game of Thrones: Sansa's Wariness of the New Ruler Actually Makes a Lot of Sense
Warning: major spoilers for the Game of Thrones series finale ahead!

The game of thrones has been played and a winner has emerged, but not in the way anyone probably expected. By the time the dust (and ash) settled on the Game of Thrones series finale, a new king was on the throne. After the fall of Daenerys and the arrest of Jon, a council assembles, consisting of all the surviving heads of great houses in Westeros; their task is to figure out what to do next. Tyrion is the first to suggest who the new king should be: Bran Stark, whom he believes could unite the people and serve the kingdom well. One by one, they vote and agree to install Bran as king. But there's one unexpected holdout: Sansa, the Lady of the North and Bran's own sister.

It's not actually as bad as it sounds, though! Sansa

The 18-year-old actor appeared near the end of the episode when the prominent figures of Westeros gathered to select a new king. Why That Ser Barristan Selmy Shout-Out on Game of Thrones Was a Really Big Deal

Why That Ser Barristan Selmy Shout-Out on Game of Thrones Was a Really Big Deal
Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead.

Everyone from Edmure Tully to Robin Arryn makes a surprise appearance in the Game of Thrones finale, but the most unexpected throwback of the evening goes to Ser Barristan Selmy. The former Commander of the Kingsguard and loyal follower of Daenerys Targaryen dies in season five, and the actor who played the character wasn't too pleased with his early exit.

Per The Telegraph, Ian McElhinney claims he wasn't told about his character's death ahead of time, which is a pretty big deal since in the books Selmy is still alive and well. That's why the moment his page in The Book of Brothers is shown as Brienne flips to Jaime's entry feels so special. The old knight never fully got his due on screen, but at least the writers found a way to acknowledge his influence on the story as a whole.

Selmy

Isaac Hempstead-Wright Reacts to Game of Thrones Finale: "I Genuinely Thought it Was a Joke"

Isaac Hempstead-Wright Reacts to Game of Thrones Finale:
There's a new king in the Seven—sorry, Six—Kingdoms. Warning, spoilers follow for the Game of Thrones series finale. After Jon Snow (Kit Harington) stabbed his aunt/lover/queen Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), there was nobody left to sit on the Iron Throne. And there was no Iron Throne left either, but you get the drift. So, what were the lords and ladies of Westeros to do? The heads of all the great houses met and decided on a new king: Bran Stark. Yep, he's king and the Three-Eyed Raven. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) nominated him for the position, and everybody came around to it, but Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) had enough of the wars and declared the North would be its own...

Game of Thrones Ends With Jon Snow Heading Toward His Destiny
Warning: spoilers for Game of Thrones ahead.

Game of Thrones delivers a massive season finale that leaves all of our favorite characters - well, most of our favorite characters - moving toward their destinies as the melodic strands of the iconic theme song hit its crescendo. One of those characters is Jon Snow, whose fate briefly hangs in the balance after his decision to kill the Dragon Queen makes him a prisoner of war.

The show's creators provide a bit of a time jump between Daenerys's death and the culminating moments of the series, so we don't see Jon taken into custody by the Unsullied. Instead, the audience learns of Jon's fate through Tyrion Lannister, who pleads Jon's case in front of a council. The council contains some of the most powerful minds in the Seven Kingdoms. Unfortunately, they cannot decide how to handle Jon's case, since the Unsullied want

After a Season Away, I'm Calling It: Grey's Anatomy Needs April Kepner Back

After a Season Away, I'm Calling It: Grey's Anatomy Needs April Kepner Back
When the writers of Grey's Anatomy claimed that they were writing Sarah Drew's character, April Kepner, off the show for creative reasons, I was . . . wary. April had just come off of what was arguably one of her strongest seasons on the show, in which she went through a crisis of faith, sank into a deep depression and pattern of self-destructive behavior, and clawed her way out of it again only to wind up nearly dying -- before deciding to quit practicing medicine and get married to her ex-fiancé, Matthew, in the season 14 finale.

Unlike Arizona Robbins, whose storyline in season 14 did a good job laying the groundwork for her to ultimately decide to move to New York with her daughter, Sofia, April's only seemed to provide more and more reasons why she should stay. After all, up until the moment April decided to leave, it had seemed as though
